Interview with Oide Jewelry: owner Naho Ogawara
1. How long has it been since you started Oide Jewelry?
since 2018
2. What would make you start your own business?
I never dreamed that my jewelry making business would become my own business. However, I was diagnosed with Leukemia, in 2000. That changed my career. I have put my heart and soul into Oide Jewelry, and it has evolved! I aim to make comfortable jewelry that can be used everyday wear without being trendy.
3. What were the most challenging moments since you started your own business both for you personally and for your career?
In creating my own brand, I keenly felt my lack of self-confidence. It was hard to believe in myself, move forward and try to get buyers to accept my designs. Every step has been a challenge, and ever step I have had to evolve.
4. What has changed for you since spring 2020? How are you coping with the current situation?
-Did you need to make any changes in your life, etc..? Did you learn something about yourself, people around you, etc?
I spent more time facing myself, and I felt more faithful to what I really wanted to do. While surfing and waiting for the waves, I wondered what I should do to survive in the future business since a lot of things were changing.
-I began to change my living environment to be business-centered. During the winter, I moved to Hawaii and visited shops in various places to introduce my jewelry. I made new acquaintances by meeting and connecting with many different types people. By meeting so many different people, I have learned many different types of lessons 🙂
5. You are now located in Florida, What do you like about Florida most?
Warm weather, Blue sky, green palm trees and bright sun. Outdoor activities are available all year round.
6. How long are you in Florida and what are inspirations for you to make jewelry?
Undecided how long. State of Florida is very big and different weather; in north, south, west. There must still be an unknown world. I want to visit many cities and find a place that fits my lifestyle. I want to find a place where I can enjoy both business and private life. Because for me, business is not just about ”making money”, it’s about ”enriching my life”
7. What are your plans for the near future?
The first is to expand the business while maintaining quality in FL. After that, I hope to expand the business in California and other states. Also, to succeed without forgetting the original intention.
8. Is there anything that you’d like to tell or advice for those who want to start own business?
“Continuation is power” If you act, you will come face to face with the challenges. The key to success is to steadily accomplish the tasks. Just believe in yourself and move forward. Slowly and surely. Little by little. -Just like a lotus flower, if you stretch the stem toward the beautiful sun (Goal ) with all your might in the mud (Life), a beautiful flower will eventually bloom (Success)
